Saudi-led coalition downs ballistic missile aimed toward kingdom: Report

DUBAI: The Saudi-led coalition combating the Houthi motion in Yemen stated on Sunday in an announcement carried by state information company SPA that it had intercepted and downed a ballistic missile launched in the direction of civilian targets in southern Saudi Arabia.
Cross-border assaults by Iran-aligned Houthi forces have escalated since late May, when a truce prompted by the coronavirus pandemic expired. In late June, missiles reached the Saudi capital Riyadh. The coalition has retaliated with air strikes.
Al Masirah TV, run by the Iran-aligned Houthis, stated on Sunday that Saudi-led coalition air strikes had broken gasoline tanks in a manufacturing unit in Houthi-held territory.
On Thursday the coalition stated it had intercepted and downed an armed drone and two ballistic missiles launched in the direction of southern Saudi Arabia.
Yemen has been mired in battle because the Saudi-led coalition intervened in March 2015 to revive the Yemeni authorities ousted from energy within the capital Sanaa by Houthi forces. The Houthis say they’re combating a corrupt system.
