KOKRAJHAR: Huge cache of arms and ammunition had been recovered from the forest areas close to the India-Bhutan border in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Sunday, police stated.
Acting on a tip-off, an operation was launched within the afternoon in Katlibil forest in Saraibil border outpost space and Belguri forest in Sefanguri police station space of the district, Kokrajhar’s superintendent of police Rakesh Roushan stated.
A medium machine gun with a sequence, 5 AK-56 rifles with 4 magazines and 244 cartridges, and an INSAS rifle with 23 cartridges had been amongst these recovered, he stated.
Besides, three 9 mm pistols with 5 magazines and 6 cartridges, a .22 Chinese gun with two magazines and 5 cartridges, and a hand grenade had been additionally seized, he added.
Police have stepped up search operations within the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) over the previous one month, and big portions of arms and ammunition have been seized from varied elements of the 4 districts.
Elections to the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), scheduled to have been held on April 4, have been stored in abeyance till additional orders because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
